Funny Photos

I couldn't decide between Funny Fotos, Phunny Photos, or Funny Photos. Anyways, I wanted to share some funny stuff that I have come across the past week. Last Friday my marvelous friend Paige and I went to a show at the Prophet Bar in Deep Ellum to see The Beaten Sea and when we went to the ladies room I just happen to go into the stall where my alter ego Myranda had been! I guess that's where I've been when I have those black outs where I don't remember long periods of time. I really should get that checked out.

Yesterday, I got the wonderful opportunity to go on a treasure hunt with Sandra! As we were on our way to our local Goodwill we happened upon this...
Doesn't it look like Big Al's Church! That'd be awesome to get to eat pizza during a sermon! Upon arriving at Goodwill I found some botanist plates displaying species I had never heard of!

I'd like to visit the remote country where they found these!  Except that Phattfacia Stupenda kinda scares me a little bit.
Now for some oldies but goodies, these are some pictures I took while working behind a computer all day, Michelle can attest that when you get bored you start to do weird stuff, just take a look...
EEeeeeeccccKKkkkkkk...
Don't you dare think about touching my lunch in the fridge!
I swear, it wasn't me!
Oops

wait...what?

You might be wondering what that white string coming from my ear is...No it is not a new form of jewelery, however I do want to try wearing different earrings that are asymmetrical, but maybe people would think it was like I accidentally put two different socks on my feet (this has actually happened to me before, and they were like crazy weird patterns so it wasn't discreet).  It is in fact my earphone of sanity, for without music or librivox (Michelle, we should do a posting on this with our fav books and readers to listen to!) I would most likely go insane, again Michelle can attest.  I hope this has brightened your day!

A Sweet Gift

I got to eat lunch with Miranda the other day and she surprised me with a present! I just love presents, and Miranda always gives the best ones! For my birthday last year she gave me this:

An Edith Piaf 45 (that’s a record) with La Vie En Rose on it. One of my absolute favorite songs! I first fell in love with this song while watching the original Sabrina with Audrey Hepburn. It is probably my favorite movie of all time. Oh, it just makes me smile to think about it!

I wish I had this dress.
And somewhere fancy to wear it, gloves and all!
The outfits that she had and that awesome haircut. Ah, I wish that those styles would come back around!

I would wear this in a heartbeat.
I wish I could pull off that haircut too!
(John Darrin would NOT go for that at all!)
Just one last picture. I want this dress so badly.
Why don't they make dresses like this anymore?
I told JD the other day that I want to buy a petticoat
because I like the fluffy-skirt look.
One area where Miranda and I differ is which Sabrina we think is better. I love the old one and she loves the new one. It has caused many issues in our relationship, but I am happy to report that we have resolved them all and agree to disagree! Back to Miranda...

Miranda is just so thoughtful with her gifts. Well, Tuesday she came to eat with me at work and brought me another present that was just perfect.

This awesome handkerchief. She got it at the estate sale that she blogged about here. And then embroidered the B on it herself!

Isn't it gorgeous? I just love all of the colors. They work together so beautifully.

The hand-stitched-with-love bright blue 'B'.
The pinks and reds of the flowers just pop.
And then the awesome greens and yellows.
All the colors come together so beautifully!
And I love that she hand-stitched the B on it.

I think that presents that people have put some time and thought and effort into are the best. I need to work on being better at giving these types of gifts, instead of just handing someone a gift card or $20. These types of gifts just mean so much more to the recipient.

Thank you, Miranda, for my new hanky! I love it! And I love you!!

So, if anyone has any examples of gifts that they have given or received that had thought put into them and meant so much to the recipient, I would love to hear about them!

Peace,
Michelle

Terra's Terrible Cuisine

Terra’s Terrible Cuisine Choice

This is Terra. She is a nice girl. She has a beautiful daughter and a handsome husband. She lives in a normal neighborhood and works with me at a very run-of-the-mill place. “What” you might ask, “is so special about Terra then?” Well, I will tell you friends. Terra is a monster. A beast some might say. Terra, without regard to her personal safety (or hygiene) ate a live cricket. This is how it all started…

Terra decided to stand up against the invasion of crickets here at Humphrey & Associates because she is that kind of a person. She is also the kind of person that likes to make an easy $200!

Not wanting to miss any action, I bought my Cricket Ticket.

And waited for the show to begin. These were the rules:
1.      Terra must eat a live cricket.
2.       She must chew three (3) times and swallow.
3.       She must show us that her mouth is empty.
4.       She must wait 30 seconds after swallowing to eat or drink anything.
The Cricket!

The crowd!
The cash!
Cricket in hand!
Chew three times!
Smile like a champ!
"For real, when is thirty seconds up?"
Pepsi and a honeybun to wash it all down.
Nice work Terra! I told you I would make you famous on my blog if you did it! I don’t know if cricket eating is exactly what you would want to be made famous for, but, hey, take what you can get!

If you want to watch the video the link is here.

For the rest of you who don’t know Terra, she really is normal (-ish) and does have a beautiful little girl. Oh, you want some proof of her normalcy. Ok.

Here is Terra last Tuesday at work.

And here is Terra last year at the company Christmas party:

And here is Terra this morning:

See, she is a pretty everyday kind of girl.
Alright, alright. Terra just makes it too easy sometimes with her Facebook pictures! Here is the real Terra,

Isn’t she a gorgeous girl? And here is my absolute favorite picture of her daughter,

Beautiful girl, just like her Momma!

Nice work eating a live cricket, Terra. Enjoy your well deserved money!

Estate Sales & Greeting Cards

I haven't had an estate sale fix in awhile!  My estate saleing buddy used to be Sandra at work, we would go Friday during our lunch break, so so many treasures were found during those lovely lunches!  Or whenever I could get to Denton on a Saturday and go with Michelle, but that is hard to work out because we are so popular.  Alas, I do not work there anymore and Michelle and my popularity has continued to grow so I have been jonesin' for a fix.  Which is why I was jumping for joy at the change to go with Natalie Pocta to an estate sale in Burleson!  I didn't even mind the fact that we needed to leave at 6:45 a.m. in order to be the first ones in line for the dishes Natalie had her eyes on.  (When someone has an addiction they will go to great lengths in order to satisfy their hunger ;)

I don't want to make you jealous, but oh my gosh it was an awesome estate sale!  There was a great split of both guy and girl stuff.  As in plenty of tools, records, house hold junk from the husband, and crafty, girly, kitchen, chotchkeys from the wife!  They also kept things in very nice shape.  I could tell from their patches, postcards, and souvenirs from many different states that they had been all over the U.S.  I think it might have been from going to different Cactus or Succulent Festivals around the country, for there was a lot of souvenirs from those things.  Plus pots and a green house to match.  You can see evidence of this in the the blue, canvas bag that I bought below.  Michelle and I have always told each other that when we die and have estate sales people are going to be like "Oh my gosh, these people were awesome!"  For we have turned many a junk pieces to treasures, and gosh do I have a lot of "treasures".  And speaking of my treasures, you may now feast your eyes on everything I got for $33...

Yes, I know, God sure blessed me that day!  I got plenty of craft stuff to use for the greeting cards that I make.  Which brings up a perfect time for me to plug my new side project...Sweet Blossom Cards.  I got busy making some new cards and have posted them on my etsy site.  Also, totally let me know if you need a specific type of card and I would love to make it!

Back to the estate sale, I want to point out some cool things...Notice the bow ties in the front, Natalie and I both got some and will soon be sporting them on headbands.  Also, on the left I got some fabric scraps from the 70's that include psychedelic frogs, flowers, and pirate ships.  There were many treasures in my loot that I won't go into, for I don't want to make you drool, but suffice to say I think it was more than a success of an estate sale!

OH!  And I almost forgot one of my favorite buys, E.T. greeting cards!  Okay, on ebay for just one by itself it is going for $12.99, but I have 9 of them so I wonder what I can get for that?!?  I mean who would have even thought of E.T. greeting cards!  Ha!

Priceless!

Memaw's Cinnamon Rolls

Today I am going to share one of my absolutely favorite recipes that my Memaw taught me when I was a little girl. The dough is also known as Refrigerator Roll Dough. I have never made the dough into regular rolls, but I can imagine that it would be scrumptious! Stick with me because it is a fairly involved process, but it is worth it in the end I promise.

Start with a large metal bowl. You are going to need a large bowl because your dough is going to double in size as it rises. You need a metal bowl because that is what Memaw always used so that is what I use. You will also mess this recipe up completely if you use anything besides a wooden spoon to stir. These two things are key- a metal bowl and a wooden spoon. If anyone asks why, tell them Memaw said so.

Ok, so pour the warm water into your bowl and then dissolve the yeast in it. Add sugar, salt, and half of the flour. Beat thoroughly with the wooden spoon. Add the egg, shortening, and remaining flour. As you can see in the recipe, you can add 6 ½ or 7 cups of flour.

This is how Mom and I keep track of how many cups of flour we have
put in as we go.

It really depends on how sticky your dough is. You want to be able to knead it on a floured surface and it stay in a ball. After you add the remaining ingredients, beat until you think your arm is going to fall off, beat a little bit more and then knead it just until it is nice and smooth.

I knead you.

Leave the dough on the counter and wash out the bowl. Add some oil to the bottom and roll it around until it completely covers the bottom and a little way up the sides. Then add a little more and put your dough back in the bowl. Roll the dough around until all sides are covered.

Then place a damp towel over the dough and put it in a warm place to let it rise. [If you are making this in the winter and can’t find a warm place, Mom and I have figured out that you can turn on the dryer for a bit and get it warmed up, then turn it off and put your dough inside. You might have to reheat it a few times. Just remember to take the bowl of dough out before you turn the dryer back on!]

Ready to rise.

It might take a while for your dough to rise. You want to let the dough DOUBLE in size. Once it has done this, punch it down with your fist and let it rise again. While you are waiting you have several options of ways to pass the time. You could grease the pans you are going to make the cinnamon rolls in. You could get the butter, cinnamon, and sugar ready to be used in a second. You could watch Antiques Roadshow. Or you could be like me and make Italian Cream Soda. Super easy and super refreshing! 8 parts sparkling mineral water, 1 part half-and-half, and 1 part Vanilla syrup (or whatever other flavor you would like.) Simply scrumptious.

It is risen indeed.

Alright, after your dough has doubled in size, you punched it down, and it grew again you are ready to start making some cinnamon rolls. Head back over to your floured counter top and start rolling out your dough. You want to try to make it as square or rectangular as possible.

Rectangular-ish.

It should be somewhat elastic-y. Elastic-y meaning that you can roll it and it will start to shrink back to how it was before. Just keep working with it until it is between ¼” and ½” thick.
Now cover the top of that dude with butter. Slather it up! Then lots of sugar and lots of cinnamon.

They are 1/2 sticks. Too cool!
All buttered up and nowhere to go.
Lots of cinnamon and lots of sugar. That is what Papa always told me
on this step.
Next you are going to roll the dough to make the rolls. Makes sense, doesn’t it? It is always helpful to have an extra pair of hands to help out with this part, but it is completely doable on your own. When you get to the end of the dough, pinch the end to the roll to make it stick together like it should.

Now get a piece of floss. You are going to use it to cut the rolls, quickly, efficiently, and you will feel completely awesome doing it this way.

Zis is ze floss trick.

Start at one end of your roll and place the middle of the floss under the dough. Pick up both sides and criss-cross them- taking the right one and pulling it to the left and vice versa. Keep tightening, and ta-dah it slices right through that bad boy. Pretty awesome, huh?

Beautiful.

Cut your rolls about 1 ¼” thick and place them in your pre-greased pan. They are going to rise again, so if they look small or wimpy it is ok, don’t judge them yet. Keep doing this until you run out of dough.

The two ends might not be to pretty. They are what we call “orts” and are meant to be consumed raw by me and my dad. Just bring them over, we will be here waiting.

I could eat these raw all day. And then be sick all night.

Before we let the dough rise again you need to smear some more butter on top of each roll and some more cinnamon and sugar as well. Perfect. Now put them back in the warm place with a damp cloth over them and let them rise again.

Go ahead and turn your oven on to 350° F. ( I don’t know why I specify Fahrenheit, it’s not like you think I am going to give you degrees Celsius or Kelvin and make you convert it or something.)

The rolls are ready to cook when they have puffed up and fill up most of the space around them. No real measurement here, just when they look ready.

They should look something like this.

Throw those bad dudes in the oven and cook ‘em. It will probably take around 25 minutes if you only have one pan in there, but just check on them every once in a while to make sure they aren’t burning. They are done when they are golden brown and not doughy.
While they are cooling, mix up some milk/butter/powdered sugar glaze to throw on top of each serving.

Done!

Enjoy with a big ol’ glass of milk!!
